The New York Yankees will open their 2008 season on March 31, 2008. Their first game will feature a home game against the Toronto Blue Jays. In honor of their stadium, the Yankees will also host the Pro Baseball All-Star Game. Yankee Stadium will then be closed in order to start construction on their new technologically advanced 2009 stadium.
In terms of talent and ability, the Yankees have not started their offseason positively. Manager uncertainity and several free agents plagued the New York Yankees roster. Finally departing with Joe Torre, the other four players resigned with the New York team. Joe Girardi will now lead the team into the new season this March.
Several player resignings this season include Jose Molina, Jorge Posada, LaTroy Hawkins, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera. Jonathan Albaladejo joins the team from the Washington Nationals.
